Viewfinder's December Gallery Visit
Ryan McGinley: Wandering Comma
Saturday, 10th December (4pm – 5pm)
Join the Viewfinder Photography Gallery for their Gallery Visit to see Ryan McGinley first London exhibition since his celebrated 'Moonmilk' series. Viewfinder’s monthly Gallery Visits are a great opportunity to see an exhibition with fellow photography enthusiasts.
"Wandering Comma photographs are about removal: bringing people to nondescript locations, to places that aren't recognizable, removing their clothes, capturing them with a very limited style palette. I try to think about how timelessness, isolation, and style interact." (Ryan McGinley, Artforum, September 2010)
The taking of the photograph is only the beginning of McGinley's artistic process, as his chromatic interventions and manipulations of scale are central to the emotional and spiritual landscapes evoked by each image. He applies effects to the entire image, rather than to individual sections, printing each image in an enormous variety of colour variations and grain amplifications before deciding on its final appearance.
McGinley's images are dreamed worlds willed into existence.
Meet Viewfinder’s Programme Manager, Rui Cepeda, at 4pm outside the gallery (Alison Jacques Gallery, 16-18 Berners Street, London W1T 3LN) - Rui will be wearing a Viewfinder name badge.
