The hosting of an athletics event in Henley could raise millions and create event jobs in the area, it has been claimed.

Alan Rose, director of sports event management company Just Racing UK, has given a presentation on the competition to members of Henley Town Council's town and community committee, the Henley Standard reports.

According to the news provider, organisers believe the athletics gathering would generate £4.5 million for the town and attract international media attention.

Mr Rose commented: "This is a flagship event that excites the expectations of competitors and the public.

"We want to create an event in a premier location, with the support of a premier local authority to work with and share the excitement."

The weekend of July 16th to 18th will see cycling stars from around the world return to the white rose county for the East Yorkshire Classic weekend.

Exhibition stands for the races will be provided by the Hull Thursday Road Club, the event organisers.
