Whitwam recently held an evening of canapes and drinks to celebrate its 100th birthday.

The mayor of Winchester was among the guests who attended the audio visual equipment hire company's party last week (October 7th).

When it first opened, the firm was a traditional music shop on Winchester high street but it has now expanded into audio visual technology.

David Harding, director and grandson of Jabez Whitwam, the founder of the original company, said the firm was very proud of its heritage.

"My grandfather started off with a retail premises selling sheet music and pianos. Over the years, the business has evolved into what it is today - a leading provider of audio visual services for events production and permanent installations," he stated.

Its clients include Westminster Abbey, St George's Chapel - Windsor Castle, the Royal Society and the National Police Improvement Authority.

Earlier this year, the firm sponsored the Business Excellence through Technology award at the Winchester Business Excellence Awards.
