The Britain for Events campaign will deliver a clear message to policy makers and civic leaders at the House of Commons on 5th September, focusing on the impact, economically, culturally and socially, of local events.

The event will see an elite group of event professionals look to gain further political support for the industry. Outside of the campaign’s 20-12 messages, there will be an additional focus on the value of events at local level and how MP’s and municipal leaders can continue to support events within their constituencies.

“We’re looking to emphasise the important role events play in the local economy. At a time when local authority budgets are under such pressure, events can make a real difference. They shape a destination’s identity, contribute to community well-being and create commercial activities for local businesses,” said Michael Hirst, Chairman of the Business visits & Events Partnership and campaign spokesperson.

“The Torch Relay provides a tangible example of how events can excite and energise a local community. Festivals and outdoor events do likewise. Business conferences, both small and large, bring extra spend to the local economy. We need to make leading representatives of local communities more aware of these benefits and opportunities,” concludes Hirst.

The Britain for Events: Events in the Community briefing will take place at the House of Commons on 5th September and will be hosted by Nick de Bois MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Events.
