Douglas Emslie has been named the new chairman of the Association of Event Organisers (AEO), with Paul Byrom as his deputy.

Mr Emslie is the group managing director at Tarsus Group and his appointment was confirmed at the AEO board meeting on Wednesday (September 9th).

He said he was very pleased to be joining the leadership team at the major events sector organisation as it is an "interesting time" for the industry.

"There will be exciting growth opportunities for our members as we come out of recession," he explained.

He added that the launch of a new promotional campaign will be key to driving growth in the sector for the benefit of the AEO's members.

Both Mr Emslie and Mr Byrom will take their places on the Events Industry Alliance board, which next meets at the end of September.

The AEO recently entered a partnership with one of Europe's leading convention and exhibition centres, Feria Valencia, with the aim of boosting the venue's profile in the UK.
