Event organisers advised to check with insurers over ash cloud

Hiscox has warned conference organisers that they need to alert their insurer immediately if they think the volcanic ash cloud could affect their events.

Hiscox has warned conference organisers that they need to alert their insurer immediately if they think the volcanic ash cloud could affect their events.

The company said that insurers will be able to work with businesses to take the necessary actions to keep an event going.

It also recommended that conference organisers check their policy to see if they are covered for emergency expenditure.

"We are seeing that some customers are experiencing disruption with international delegates and exhibitors not being able to fly in to attend their events," said Hiscox underwriter Elizabeth Seeger.

She explained that in many cases things were working fine on the ground level at the event venue but getting people to the show was proving difficult.

Ms Seeger advised keeping a record of expenses incurred relating to the event and gross revenue. These details will help event organisers when they are making an insurance claim.

UK airspace was closed last Thursday (April 15th) and reopened today.
