Events industry professionals were told to 'diversify or die' at a recent event which gathered together key figures from the sector.

The Event Suppliers and Services Association's (ESSA's) G50 convention saw Stanco Group's managing director Andy Gibb, industry statistician Phil Soar and Paul Byrom of Upper Street Events all share their insights.

Kevin Murphy, chief executive of ExCel, coined the phrase 'diversify or die', presenting event organisers with a strategy for dealing with the changing marketplace.

Mr Byrom advised organisers, contractors and suppliers to work together.

Steve Barratt, chairman of ESSA, commented: "Clearly costs and transparency are an issue for the industry and it is going to require an ongoing dialogue, perhaps through the network we have as part of the Event Industry Alliance, to find the route forward."

The G50 convention was held at the International Events Centre at Ricoh Arena on October 30th, with debates surrounding planning for the future and social media.
