Event staging company works at ship launch

Cunard's new cruise ship, the Queen Elizabeth, was launched with the help of The Arena Group, it has been announced.

The portable staging company supported Robbie Williams Productions to provide temporary event overlay at the naming ceremony.

Arena's structure division supplied a period 1930s-style grandstand roof construction, while project manager Mark Shelley oversaw the creation of bespoke 7.5 metre-supporting leg structures.

These were installed to ensure guests could enjoy great views while attending the red carpet event.

Seating from the company continued with the regal theme, with Arena creating a luxurious viewing theatre with a grandstand of 1,638 tired seats in royal blue.

Additional Arena Congress Seating was provide for the royal guests, including the Queen.

The company said: "The prestigious ceremony recreated the atmosphere of the golden era of 1930s ship launches, reflecting the ship's opulent interiors."

Queen Elizabeth named the 92,000 tonne ship, which features 16 desks, at the glittering ceremony in Southampton.
