The new development was designed and refurbished by businessman Mehboob Ahmad, who spent £1.75 million developing the Jamal Building after his father's clothing business, M M Knitwear, the previous occupant, was forced to close.

Mr Ahmad kept the M&M name in honour of his father and has now designed a multi-functional venue which should appeal to conference organisers and workshops alike. He told gazettelive.co.uk: "We can accommodate everything from conferences, training days, workshops, school training days, proms, Christmas parties and weddings."

The various rooms of the building are named after his children and grandfather to add a personal touch and the biggest suite can hold 800 people.

It is hoped that the new facilities will help to revitalise the local economy in Thornby.

According to dailyrecord.co.uk, SNO!zone in Braewood offers Christmas parties complete with indoor snow and tobogganing.
