Media 10 has reported that the eighth Grand Designs Live Birmingham has been its most successful edition to date with 64,356 visitors (subject to ABC audit), 14,300 more than in 2012.

The rise in reported visitor numbers equates to a 28% year-on-year increase for the show, which took place at the NEC between 4th - 6th October.

This year’s Grand Designs Live in Birmingham also expanded its footprint by 15% to house more Grand Build stands, along with food and houseware elements and a new food feature, Market Lane.

Nathan Garnett, show manager for Media 10, said: "Our eighth Birmingham show has been a phenomenal success in every sense - from the new, expanded layout, fantastic national and local media support, to unprecedented exhibitor and visitor attendance levels; the Birmingham show is growing from strength to strength."

The three-day event was opened by the host of Channel 4’s Grand Designs, Kevin McCloud. Other guest speakers included George Clarke, Jo Hamilton and James Alexander-Sinclair.

Highlights of this year’s show included the launch of the 'Eco Tech House', plus a new initiative called 'Self-Build on a Shoestring' which challenged people to design a self-build friendly home for less than £50,000, with the prize going to architect Ed Green, an associate with Cardiff-based Pentan Partnership, for his innovative, low-cost agricultural barn structure titled, ‘Barnhaus’.

Grand Designs Live returns to London’s Excel on 3-11 May 2014.
