The event organisers behind the Grand Designs Live Birmingham show have announced that visitor numbers were up 11 per cent.

Media 10 said that the show's rise in popularity came despite the fact that the housing market remains turbulent.

Lee Newton, Media 10 managing director, commented: "As our second Grand Designs Live event of the year Birmingham always attracts a high number of visitors, but we could not have anticipated just how popular this year would be.

"It is incredible to see so many consumers returning and we're proud that the show is continuing to attract a loyal following from the Midlands and surrounding areas."

Grand Designs Live Birmingham, which is based on the popular TV show starring Kevin McCloud, took place between October 8th and 10th.

Highlights included a village displaying eco show homes, the House of the Future, which features the latest home technologies and a live kitchen experience sponsored by Miele.

For outdoors fans there were show gardens and a Garden Theatre where talks from celebrities and experts were held.
