Olympic committee urges event organisers to bid for contracts

Event suppliers are being called on to bid for £700 million worth of goods and services contracts associated with the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

Event suppliers are being called on to bid for £700 million worth of goods and services contracts associated with the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

The London organising committee is looking for businesses across eight different categories.

These include facilities management and catering, production services for ceremonies, such as portable staging, technology, transport and logistics, security, services and sports, as well as venues and venue logistics.

Gerry Walsh, procurement director of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), urged interested companies to sign up to the procurement portal.

"There are many opportunities for companies of all sizes to get involved with London 2012 - whether it's directly through LOCOG or through one of our sponsors, stakeholders or suppliers further down the supply chain," he commented.

Len Olender, Olympic director of travel, event management and marketing service at Sportsworld Group, recently said that events businesses need to start looking for opportunities to make the most of the Games.
