HBAA launch new committee to provide sustainability guidelines

The HBAA has launched the Technology, Innovation and Sustainability (TIS) Committee to strengthen awareness of sustainability within the industry.

The HBAA has launched the Technology, Innovation and Sustainability (TIS) Committee to strengthen awareness of sustainability within the industry.

The new committee, chaired by Leigh Cowlishaw, director of partnerships at Capita Travel, replaces the previous Technology, Innovation and Environment Committee and will be focusing on showcasing new innovations in technology and providing members with sustainability guidelines, trackers and checklists.

The TIS committee plans to be a technology voice to the market and aims to champion sustainability among its members, encouraging a more automatically sustainable culture within the industry. The focus on technology and innovation will also support the communication and delivery of the committee’s sustainable commitments.

Leigh Cowlishaw commented on the plans: "Sustainability isn’t a new thing. Venues, event organisers and agents have been championing the green agenda for years, and yet we continue to call sustainability a future development issue.

"Corporate responsibility is a long-term view and should be a pre-requisite in the way we work. Acting now will set businesses up to thrive in years to come and we are delighted to see it back as part of meetings and events objectives."
